How do I start a project?

Jump right into designing your home in just a few clicks! HomeByMe offers three ways to start your project, depending on your needs:

1. Create an empty room (start from scratch)

This is the simplest option. It's perfect for a project that focuses on a single room (for example: imagining a new look for your living room). It's also great if your project doesn't require millimeter precision.

  1. On your home page, click the "Create a project" button
  2. In the creation window, select "Create from an empty room"
  3. Choose the room type you want to design:
    • Bedroom, Living room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Office, etc.
  4. Select the approximate size of your room:
    • Small (~10 m²): great for an office or a small child's bedroom
    • Medium (~15 m²): perfect for a large bedroom or a living room
    • Large (~20 m²): suited for spacious living areas
  5. Set the shape of your room:
    • Square, Rectangle, L-shaped, or Chamfered square (a square with one corner cut off)
  6. Confirm

And there you go! You're taken straight into the 3D editor where you can start placing your walls, furniture, and bring your project to life.

2. Start from a template

This option lets you explore the tool by starting from a pre-made model that you can customize.

  1. On your home page, click "Create a project"
  2. Select "Start from a template"
  3. Browse the available template library:
    • Room templates: a single pre-furnished room
    • Project templates: multiple rooms forming a complete home
  4. Click on a template to see its details:
    • Total area
    • Number of rooms
    • Image gallery
  5. Choose how to open the template:
    • With furniture: keeps all the decorative elements (perfect for inspiration)
    • Without furniture: keeps only the wall and room structure (handy for starting fresh with your own decor)
  6. Click your choice to launch the planner

Your project is ready! You can now customize it to your taste: change the colors, swap out furniture, adjust the dimensions.

3. Import an existing 2D floor plan

This is ideal if you already have your home's floor plan and want to use it as a base. The 2D plan will be displayed in the background, and all you need to do is draw your walls on top of it.

  1. On your home page, click "Create a project"
  2. Select "Upload your 2D plan"
  3. Click "Choose a file" or drag and drop your plan
  4. Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, JPEG, PDF
  5. Once the file is loaded, you can:
    • Use our premium service "We draw for you": our team converts your 2D plan into a 3D project
    • Or draw the structure yourself using the imported plan as a background guide

Your plan is now in HomeByMe! You can start tracing walls or hand this step over to our experts.

Note:

  • You can create up to 2 projects for free. If you've reached your project limit, you can subscribe to a plan to unlock additional credits.
  • Deleting a project does not restore any credits.
